Deiniolen Band honour stalwarts

During the Deiniolen Band's Annual Concert on Friday, April 23rd, 2004, a very special presentation was made. It is now 30 years since Mr. Meirion Jones and Mr. Hefin Jones began their posts as the Band's Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Everyone connected with the Deiniolen Band, based in the heart of Snowdonia, North Wales, were adamant that their loyal service had to be acknowledged.Meirion & Hefin G Jones

A collection was made between band and committee members, and they both received a pocket watch each, engraved with the message: 'Presented to Meirion Jones/Hefin G. Jones, April 2004, as a sign of our thanks and extreme gratitude for over 30 years' service as Secretary/Treasurer of the Deiniolen Band.'

To honour the occasion a party was held at the Anglesey Arms Hotel, Menai Bridge, and it is fair to say that a memorable evening was had! There was quite a bit of reminiscing and leg-pulling, but all in all, it was a night of celebrating the history of the band, and in particular, Meirion and Hefin's contributions.

The Committee and the Band wish to extend their warmest thanks to both Meirion and Hefin for their excellent service over the last 30 years - long may it continue!

The concert was a special one for many other reasons. It was Deiniolen's first Annual Concert with our new conductor, Wynne Williams, and it was a great pleasure to be able to award the R. John Childs Memorial Shield to Wynne, as a token of their thanks and appreciation for his hard work and enthusiasm since he took up the baton with us in September 2003. The band's other awards were also presented on the night. The 'Player of the Year' was Hefin G. Jones and the 'Most Improved Player of the Year' was Elin Morris. The Youth Band's award, the Mr. & Mrs. O. H. Jones Memorial Shield was awarded to Liam Taylor. Congratulations to all.

The concert organisers wish to extend their thanks to all who contributed to make the evening so special and such a huge success. The capacity audience in the hall were treated to a feast of the best local entertainment available!
